QuickBooks Ledger is a new QuickBooks Online plan designed exclusively for accounting professionals. Use Ledger to manage your year-end, tax-only, and low-transaction clients with automated bank feeds, bank reconciliation, financial statements, 1099 tracking, and a seamless transition to tax preparation.

*Any reports or third-party apps for invoicing, estimates, sales or sales tax, payments, managing or paying bills, budgets and tracking, projects, inventory, or other features that are not included will not be serviceable in QuickBooks Ledger.

QuickBooks Ledger subscriptions will be billed to your firm at $10 per month per subscription,* which is the exclusive pricing for accounting professionals.

You can add your clients to QuickBooks Ledger through your QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA) account. If you need to add 10 or more Ledger subscriptions, our Accountant Sales team is also available to help.*

No. QuickBooks Ledger is only available to accounting professionals with an active QuickBooks Online Accountant subscription, which means that your clients can’t sign up on their own.

No. You can use QuickBooks Ledger without providing your client with direct access. To do this, you’ll need to occupy the Primary Admin business user role.

This means that your client won’t be able to log in to connect their bank or credit card feeds, view their transactions, or upload documents. If you would still like to connect your clients’ feeds, some banks and credit card companies provide accountant credentials that you can use; otherwise, you will need to manually upload the transactions or enter journal entries.

If you need to change the Primary Admin—for example, if you decide to give your client access in the future—contact Support and submit a Primary Admin Change Request to transfer the permissions to your client. 

If you would like to add your client as the primary admin on the QuickBooks Ledger subscription, during the “Add Client” process, make sure you do not select the “Make me the primary admin” checkbox. By default, your client is the primary admin when they first sign in to QuickBooks. You’ll be the primary admin until their first login.

Don’t worry, even if your client is the primary admin, you’ll still get the billing notifications and your client won’t be able to access your billing information. You’ll also remain on their Ledger subscription as one of the QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA) admin users.

If you’ve taken the primary admin role for the Ledger file, you’ll need to contact Support and submit a Primary Admin Change Request to transfer the permissions to your client. You will still have full access as one of the QBOA admin users.

Yes! You can migrate from QuickBooks Desktop Accountant using the existing Desktop migration tools. We also have a new Accountant Batch Migration Tool that allows you to move up to 50 client files simultaneously. QuickBooks Ledger is a great way for you to consolidate more of your practice online and reduce manual workflows through bank connections and automated bookkeeping.

Yes. Since QuickBooks Ledger is a QuickBooks Online plan, you can upgrade your clients to QuickBooks Online Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced depending on what they need to manage their business.

Downgrading from other QuickBooks Online subscriptions into QuickBooks Ledger is currently restricted and you can only set up new clients/companies on Ledger.

Using the Prep for Taxes feature, you can seamlessly pull your trial balances from Ledger into ProConnect Tax. The books to tax process has never been easier.
